BSI helps Toshiba demonstrate sustainable business excellence by understanding the lifecycle impacts of its new products and technologies
Press release - 5th December 2012
BSI Japan has enabled technology giant Toshiba to demonstrate the sustainable credentials of its new eco-friendly multi-function printer, the “e-STUDIO 306LP MFP”, through the use of business standards.
BSI’s team of environmental experts has verified that the innovative ‘Multi-function Printer System’ of Toshiba Tec meets the stringent requirements of the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) standards, ISO 14040 and ISO 14044. Together these standards provide a robust framework for assessing the environmental impact of a product or service from the time of production through to product disposal.
The verification process reviewed the LCA calculation method of the “e-STUDIO 306LP MFP” for a five year period and compared it with that of a regular multi-function printer.
“Complying with rigorous verification standards is demonstration of Toshiba’s commitment to sustainable business improvement,” said Yoshio Izumi, Marketing Director at BSI. “Understanding the LCA of the company’s new products demonstrates that Toshiba is taking major steps towards addressing the environmental aspects and potential impacts throughout a product's life - from initial raw material acquisition through to final disposal.”
